Description:

Stabilized chlorine dioxide is actually a weakly buffered, stable solution of sodium chlorite that releases chlorine dioxide when exposed to acidic conditions. This makes them a convenient and safe way to use chlorine dioxide for various applications.

Unlike pure chlorine dioxide, which must be generated on-site and used immediately, stabilized chlorine dioxide can be stored and transported. In stabilized form, chlorine dioxide is released slowly when triggered by specific conditions such as dilution, temperature change, or pH shift.

This controlled release ensures effective performance while minimizing risk. Stabilized chlorine dioxide product is a versatile disinfectant with a wide range of applications, such as water treatment, food processing, healthcare, agriculture, and horticulture.

Applications of Stabilized Chlorine Dioxide:

Water

Water Treatment:

  • Disinfection of drinking water to eliminate bacteria, viruses, and protozoa.
  • Control of taste, odor, and color issues in water.
  • Removal of iron and manganese.
  • Treatment of wastewater to reduce organic matter and pathogens.
Food

Food Industry:

  • Sanitization of food processing equipment and surfaces.
  • Control of bacteria and pathogens in food products.
  • Extending shelf life of food products.
Health

Healthcare:

  • Disinfection of medical equipment and facilities.
  • Prevention of hospital-acquired infections.
Paper

Pulp and Paper Industry:

  • Bleaching of pulp to produce white paper.
  • Removal of lignin and other impurities.

Safety Precautions:

While stabilized chlorine dioxide is generally safer to handle than gaseous chlorine dioxide, it's still a powerful chemical and requires proper handling and storage. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear appropriate PPE, including gloves, goggles, and protective clothing when handling stabilized chlorine dioxide. Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation when using or storing the product. Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from incompatible substances. Emergency Procedures: Have emergency procedures in place in case of accidental exposure.
